Derby College is holding an apprenticeship and jobs fair Thursday September 11 (12.30pm to 4.30pm) in partnership with a wide range of employers who are advertising opportunities for young people in the local area.
The event will be held at Derby College’s Johnson Building in Locomotive Way, Pride Park, (DE24 8PU) between 12.30pm and 4.30pm.
Employers attending the event include the NHS, GF Tomlinson construction, Ian Hodgkinson builders, Cooper Parry accountants, ESG Engineering, Londsdale Swimming and Sports Trading, Siemens Rail IT and the RAF.
Young people and adults attending the event will also be able to apply for the apprenticeships and jobs on offer through the Derby College recruitment service or register their details for future vacancies.
And there will be advice and guidance available to help with preparing a CV, interview techniques and how to search and apply for jobs.
Derby College Business Development Director April Hayhurst said: “The jobs market is definitely picking up and businesses in a wide range of sectors are keen to have a platform to match their apprenticeship and job opportunities with potential candidates.
“We are working with an increasing number of employers to handle their recruitment needs – tapping into the potential labour market of our own students at the College as well as young people further afield.”
Andy Sewards, Director at G F Tomlinson, who are one of the employers attending the event, added: “As the economy recovers, construction is once again becoming very much a growth industry.
“The sector faces a skills shortage as it struggles to find employees to meet the level of demand. This means there will be many more jobs and apprenticeships for young people in construction including construction management, quantity surveying as well as skilled trades working out on site and a whole range of other opportunities.
“G F Tomlinson is a long standing independently owned local company which has a proud history and a bright future ahead. We are looking forward to the apprenticeship and jobs fair as it will give us the chance to speak to young people about the excellent opportunities we have locally.”
