It is estimated that across the UK there are more than 600 programmes and £9.5 billion of funding available to business.
The D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, business organisations including the Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), along with stakeholders will be working over the coming months to help simplify the process of accessing business support through a Growth Hub. The aim of the Growth Hub will be to boost economic growth and improve coordination between the local and national tiers of support.
While the Growth Hub is in development I’d like to focus this week on the help and support that is ready and waiting for Nottingham’s small businesses. Nottingham City Council’s “Growing Nottingham” campaign is trying to assist local businesses access the right sort of local funding through a new document. Growing Nottingham is part of The Nottingham Growth Plan the business-led economic blueprint for the City’s future business growth. Measures introduced as part of The Growth Plan have played a key role in encouraging new business formation through various finance and support packages. Most funding and grant programmes are designed to create economic growth and sustainable employment.
Finding the right source of funding is often the biggest challenge for a business who wants to expand. Billions of pounds are given out every year by government agencies, but most businesses don’t even know they exist, or if they do how time consuming and difficult it is to access them.
The Supporting Your Business in Nottingham booklet details 12 programme of funding and support available to businesses in the Greater Nottingham area both by Nottingham City Council and its partners.
One of the funding programmes detailed is the Nottingham Technology Grant Fund (N’Tech) which is geared towards the growing life science, digital content and clean technology sectors and the fund is delivered by Nottingham City Council.
