Business leaders from across Ashfield and Mansfield celebrated the success of the award winning Career Champion scheme at a tea party held at the Mansfield Manor Hotel.
Since the project was launched, over 70 businesses have taken the Career Champion pledge to help support students in activities that will grow their aspirations and increase their employability skills. The scheme, which has received acclaim over the past year was created by the Mansfield Learning Partnership, The Chad, Mansfield 2020 and A-Star Media Ltd.
Berni Dickinson, Director of the Mansfield Learning Partnership thanked attendees for their support which has enabled activities to take place including students networking with local businesses, businesses mentoring students as part of the Junior Enterprise competition, students taking part in Master Classes on careers and employability skills along with creation of work experience placements and Post 16 Career Internships.
Berni said, “Career Champions is part of a wider programme of work we’re undertaking with schools to ensure all young people in Mansfield have the skills they need to secure work when they leave education. Career Champions offer something that is really unique, putting our youngsters ahead of the game when it comes to seeking employment, and I am so proud to be celebrating our first year. I look forward to the next academic year and hope we can welcome even more businesses and have a positive impact on more young people locally.”
