THE chairman of D2N2 – the Local Enterprise Partnership for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – believes the innovative thinking of businesses like Confetti Media Group will see them have a big influence on future growth in the region.
Peter Richardson was talking after a two-hour tour yesterday (Thursday) of the premises with founder Craig Chettle – at the same time Prince Harry’s Royal Visit to Confetti as part of his Nottingham tour was announced – to see first hand the work that is taking place in the creative quarter in the Lace Market.
Chettle has five companies in the area with Confetti tutors delivering courses to 14- to 16-year-olds in schools while 16- to 25-year-olds come in to study HE and FE courses in music, TV, radio, film or games production. The other businesses are Spool (film production), Denizen (record label), Constellations (design) and members-only Antenna.
It has grown to the point where 1,500 people are studying there. With 150 employees and the on-going work along with state-of-the-art studios for filming and recording and the gaming set up, left a huge impression on Mr Richardson.
Confetti is also part of the consortium delivering Notts TV, a project Prince Harry will launch on his Royal Visit to the city on Thursday 25 April ahead of the channel being broadcast next year.
Mr Richardson said: “It was a real eye opener for me. Craig and the team at Confetti have developed a great concept business with serious facilities. They have a great deal to offer and I look forward to seeing them develop even more connections, influence and business opportunities across D2N2’s area.
“We in the LEP are looking to develop links with all growth businesses and welcome the chance to discuss what matters to business as we develop and deliver our Growth Plan.”
The D2N2 LEP is a business-led partnership set up to drive local economic growth and job creation in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, bringing together leaders of local authorities with key leaders from business and from our three world-class universities.
Mr Richardson is meeting local firms and partner organisations across the region to allow them to engage in the LEP, its activities to date and its future plans, as well as feeding in their views and identifying any key priorities or issues which may influence the LEP’s Growth Plan, investment initiatives, skills strategy and its work on business regulation.
