A thriving design agency is set to move into larger premises and create five new jobs thanks to a £28,000 grant from Derby Enterprise Growth Fund.
DE22 Creative has been based at Banks Mill Studio, run by the University of Derby, since its launch in 2010 and following several account gains, is now planning to move into newly-refurbished 91 sq metre offices at Chestnut House in Friar Gate.
The move will pave the way for the recruitment of more graphic designers and account handlers in the next two years.
DE22 Creative founder and managing director Martin Griffiths explained: “We had planned to continue self-funding our growth strategy but were fast running out of space at Banks Mill and needed to accelerate our expansion plans.
“As a creative agency that very much focuses on the return on investment in marketing for clients, we were delighted that DEGF recognised the same attributes in our robust business plan and track record of supporting brand development for a number of businesses both locally and nationally.
“With the funding now in place to match our own investment, we hope to move to the new offices in early May and start recruiting for staff in the near future.
“I hope that the DEGF support sends out a clear message that creative industries are blossoming in this city and shows companies in this region that they have the expertise and resources to support their design and marketing needs on their doorstep.”
Creative Director Gemma Lovett added: “We were keen to stay in the centre of Derby and in a building that has character that inspires the creative process.
“We work with a wide network of specialist associates to provide a tailored support programme for our clients so, in addition to our in-house expansion, we will be providing wider opportunities for creative professionals throughout the city and region.”
Supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund and run by Derby City Council, the £20 million DEGF aims to support growth and job creation in businesses in the city and surrounding area through a mix of loans and grants.
Derby City Council Director of Regeneration Richard Williams, a member of the DEGF panel of industry and financial experts who consider business applications, said: “Derby is developing a reputation of excellence in the creative industries and it is important that businesses in this sector are encouraged to create job opportunities that will retain and develop the growing skills base in the city.
“The panel was particularly impressed with DE22 Creative’s credentials of working with and supporting rail and manufacturing businesses in the city.”
