G F TOMLINSON SCOOPS TWO AWARDS

MIDLANDS-BASED contactor G F Tomlinson is celebrating after being awarded two prestigious construction industry awards.

G F Tomlinson has won Regeneration & Restoration Project of the Year for Chesterfield Market Hall and Sustainable Development of the Year for Romax Technology Office Development at the Insider East Midlands Property Dinner, 2014.

Andy Sewards, director at G F Tomlinson, said: “We’re really pleased to have won not one, but two industry awards that reflect the amazing work that our team carries out every single day. We are dedicated to enriching the Midlands community with sustainable and community driven projects.”

Work at Chesterfield Market Hall involved redeveloping the iconic building to restore it to its former glory. The £3.6 million scheme at the Grade II listed building required a contractor that was able to retain the integrity of the iconic building and keep the building at the heart of the town centre. As a local Derbyshire contractor, GF Tomlinson was committed to the project and worked closely with Chesterfield Borough Council to ensure that the result met the community’s expectations.

The market hall is an historic building which is of huge significance to the local community, dating back to 1857.  G F Tomlinson’s work saw the building updated to bring it in line with the times while also maintaining its Grade Two features.

The purpose built head office for Romax Technology is a state of the art office worth £5.2 million. More than 120 employees of the client, Romax, have been based in the new headquarters and the office has been designed and constructed with the company’s present and future expansion plans in mind. Since its completion, the building has provided Romax with a space in which it can thrive and continue to grow.

As well as achieving BREEAM Excellent rating for the project, the building incorporates environmentally friendly building technologies with sustainable construction techniques including biomass heating, building heat recovery and reuse, rain water recycling, solar shading and a bio diverse green roof.

The winners were announced on Wednesday, 24 September at during the 13th East Midlands Property Dinner which took place at The Belfry, Nottingham.
