This event considers how innovations in the rail industry will drive reductions in energy costs and carbon emissions.
David Clarke, Director of FutureRailway*, will present an overview of UK rail industry innovation activity and in particular the low carbon technology research, development and innovation trends starting to take place across the UK rail industry. David will also outline details of major ‘SME friendly’ funding competitions soon to be launched by FutureRailway.
Richard French, Engineering Manager R&D, Bombardier will give an overview of the company’s approach to driving innovation in the development of the next generation of energy efficient trains. Richard will also outline details of work on Independently Powered Electric Multiple-Units; using battery technology to operate electric trains on non-electrified lines.
Matt Davies, Software Solutions,Team Leader Interfleet will present details of recent rail information software product innovations including the Timetable Advisory System (TAS) which provides a train driver with information on how their train is progressing relative to timetable – running a train just to timetable can create significant fuel savings of between 2% and 8%.
This event is one in a regular series, in collaboration with Enscite, exploring the implication of the emergence of “low carbon” transport technologies and showcasing local businesses developing innovative technologies in this field. The presentations will also be followed by a buffet, sponsored by Geldards and Enscite and a networking opportunity.
