D2N2 Chief Executive David Ralph has welcomed the latest figures showing the number of Jobseekers’ Allowance claimants in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire had dropped in May.
The figures, from the Office of National Statistics, show the number of claimants fell by 184 in Derby and 757 in Derbyshire last month.
They also fell by 387 in Nottingham and 570 in Nottinghamshire during the same period.
Nationally, unemployment fell by 5,000 to 2.51m, whilst the JSA claimant count dropped by 8,600.
Mr Ralph said: “Every new job represents a real positive story to families and individuals throughout the D2N2 area and it is a figure we want to continue to help, and see, fall. It is positive news but there is still a long way to go and a lot of work to be done.”
