Low Carbon Transport Technologies – future Supply Chain opportunities for local SME’s.
Thursday February 27, 2014 – 5.30pm – 8.00pm
Geldards, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8QR
By 2040 almost none of Europe’s new cars will be powered solely by a traditional petrol or diesel engine. We are about to witness a global shift to ultra-low emission vehicles utilising more energy efficient propulsion systems, lightweight materials, alternative fuels and low carbon technologies many of which are currently being developed in the UK.
This future transition is a major opportunity for our area given that supply chains for many of these emerging technologies do not yet exist and on average only a third of the component parts currently used in vehicles manufactured in the UK are sourced from UK based businesses.
This event aims be the first in regular series exploring the implication of the emergence of “low carbon” transport technologies and showcasing local businesses developing innovative technologies in this field.
Prof Baback Yazdani, Dean of Nottingham Business School and former Director of Product Development at Operations at Jaguar Land Rover will outline the transition towards low carbon transport technologies and the practical implications for local supply chains.
Sean Long, Encite will give his perspective on the nature of future automotive supply chains based on his experience of working with Nissan on their low carbon vehicle programmes in the North East and will also outline plans for the proposed Derby Infinity Park.
Justin Hawley, Stored Energy Technology will provide a business case study, of how SET has developed an innovative motor-in-wheel technology, (the “Wheelmotor”) offering a host of improvements to the Light Rail and Tram Industries, including significant energy savings.
The presentations will also be followed by a buffet, sponsored by Geldards and a networking opportunity. This event is free to attend – to register please go to
