Young people are urged to make a date to attend Derbyshire’s biggest careers event.
Derbyshire Skills Festival is organised by Derbyshire County Council in partnership with Derby City Council and the National Apprenticeship Service.
It is an annual showcase of careers, employment and training options for young people aged 15 to 19 and will be held at three venues across the county:
- 18 and 19 September at Pride Park Stadium in Derby
- 24 September at the University of Derby in Buxton
- 25 September at Proact Stadium in Chesterfield
They are open from 3.30pm to 8pm each day and it’s free to go.
Young people can find out what’s on offer to them – including sixth form, college, apprenticeships, employment with training and volunteering opportunities.
And it’s never been more important.
From September, new rules mean all Year 11s have to stay in education, training or employment with training for longer.
It is hoped young people will gain better qualifications and develop more skills to help them fulfil their potential.
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, the County Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We want all young people to make the right choices about their future.
“Derbyshire Skills Festival is a perfect opportunity for young people to find out what’s available to them after Year 11.
“There will be loads of advice and information as well as fun sessions where they can have a go at cooking, bricklaying and hairdressing to name but a few.
“I would encourage as many young people as possible to visit this completely free event – the biggest of its kind in the county.”
Last year, over 10,000 people attended the event.
