BOSSES at Rolls-Royce have described a contract worth almost £1 billion to supply engines to a German airline as a “significant order”.
Lufthansa has placed an order for Trent XWB engines to power a fleet of 25 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The airline also has an option on engines to power a further 30 aircraft.
The deal – worth £933 million – also includes a TotalCare agreement, which will see Rolls-Royce look after the engines throughout their service life.
The Trent XWB, which has been designed and developed at Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace division in Sinfin, is due to enter into service next year.
