Employers, colleges, training providers and voluntary organisations are being encouraged to book their place at this year’s Derbyshire Skills Festival.
Organised by Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council, the free event is aimed at students aged 15 to 19, including those in Year 11 who are considering their options after school.
Derbyshire Skills Festival – supported by the Skills Show, the European Social Fund and the National Careers Service – is the largest careers event for young people in Derbyshire.
This year it is being held at:
- The Roundhouse in Derby on September 16 and 17
- The Dome at Buxton on September 23
- Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on September 25
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, the county council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Last year, more than 10,500 people came along to Derbyshire Skills Festival over a fantastic four days.
“It is the biggest and best careers event in Derbyshire so it’s a great place for employers, education and training providers and voluntary organisations to showcase what they can offer to young people thinking about their future.
“New rules mean all young people need to stay in education or training until they’re 18 so it’s never been more important for them to find out what’s available.”
It’s an opportunity for young people leaving school or college or looking for a job with training to talk to the experts and get all the information and guidance they need under one roof.
And this year’s festival promises to be even better with more have-a-go sessions being organised for young people to test their skills.
The events will open from 3.30pm to 8pm. There will also be sessions for young people with special educational needs and disabilities and young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) will also be invited.
Organisations interested in having a stand at one or more of the venues should contact John Walker at Derbyshire County Council for more details. His number is 01629 536126 or email john.walker@derbyshire.gov.uk
