‘How to boost productivity’ workshops to be held by D2N2 in July

Free workshops showing businesses and training providers how they can get more from their investment in employment and skills, by closer joint working, will be provided from next Monday (July 20) through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

With further cuts to public spending announced by Government, D2N2 – a partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers, and community and voluntary groups promoting economic growth in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – is aiming to help businesses boost their productivity and workforce skills.

Life Sciences will be one of the eight Key Sector workshops happening this month (July)

The D2N2 LEP is investing in running a series of ‘Skills for a Productive Workforce’ workshops in July, for businesses and those providing skills training, across its area and covering all of its eight key economic sectors. Those sectors are transports and logistics, life sciences, transport equipment manufacturing, construction, low carbon services, food and drink manufacturing, the creative and digital industries, and the visitor economy.

The sessions – which are free for businesses and training organisations to attend – will feature expert speakers from the different sectors, and have D2N2 staff offering free help and information on where businesses can access further support, including financial.

For example, in March (2015) the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) announced a £214million European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF) package for the area; to fund projects over the next six years to address business competitiveness, employment and training, and many other issues. The LEP also has its D2N2 Growth Hub service, which gives advice and support to new and developing businesses.

The free D2N2 workshops will provide the opportunity to:

  • clarify the help available to and challenges for businesses in the D2N2 area;
  • hear about work already undertaken by D2N2 to ensure employment and training programmes delivered in its area better meet business needs;
  • understand the support already available for businesses and training providers, and how through working together they can make an even greater impact;
  • discuss how D2N2, and the businesses and training providers in its area, might influence how Government invests in employment and training programmes in future, to help deliver improved productivity among local workforces.

 The workshops – chiefly aimed at senior business people, and skills and training organisation managers – will be held on:

 David Ralph, Chief Executive of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Recurring issues for businesses, whichever sector they work in, are finding employees with the right skills and accessing support to help their businesses grow.

“Whilst the economic outlook has improved, it is important that businesses and skills and training providers know what support is out there, to enable them to work better as individual organisations and with each other. These new D2N2 workshops for July, covering our eight key economic sectors, will help them do that.”
