£1.1m D2N2 Funding will help provide access to new business space

Work has now begun on a 150,000 sq ft development which will provide extra space for businesses in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.

Symmetry Park, located just off junction 34 of the A1, near Blyth in North Nottinghamshire, is a £60million industrial and distribution scheme set over 54 acres. It is being developed by commercial property company db symmetry and is being built by Huddersfield-based contractors, Marshalls Construction. Access to and around the site is also being greatly improved by Marshalls, thanks to a project which is being part-funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

D2N2 is the LEP for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area and it works with businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers and community and voluntary organisations to grow its areas economy, create jobs and attract investment.

Through its Local Growth Fund allocation, D2N2 has allocated £1.1m to a £1.5m project which will improve access to several key sites in North Nottinghamshire. The ‘Harworth Access Road’, encompasses improvements to the roundabout at the entrance to Symmetry Park and planned improvements to several other junctions in the area, to reduce congestion and ‘unlock’ growth potential. The remaining £450,000 is being contributed by the Sheffield City Region LEP, which fulfils a similar mission to D2N2, but in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire areas.

D2N2’s Local Growth Fund allocation currently stands at over £190million and in the most recent round of local growth funding awarded, D2N2 received the highest amount of any LEP in the Midlands (£63m). It is hoped that, over the next five years, this investment will see 6,459 jobs created, 615 homes built and an additional £153m in additional private sector investment leveraged across the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area.
