Switzerland expert heads home to boost trade links with Derbyshire

A former Derbyshire resident who is now responsible for promoting UK trade in Switzerland and Liechtenstein is returning home to the region to offer her expert insight on exporting.

Anna Faber, a Senior Trade Adviser at the British Embassy in Switzerland, will be visiting to share her expertise  as part of UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) ExploreExport roadshow at The Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands airport on 13 November. She will be one of 60 experts visiting the region from across the world to provide advice in one-to-one meetings with local businesses at the Export Week event.

Organised by UKTI in conjunction with partners and business organisations, Export Week, from 10 to 14 November, aims to encourage companies to take up the export challenge and highlight the wealth of support and knowledge available to help them grow.

Anna, hails from Stoney Middleton near Bakewell and has maintained strong links with the region, having got married at the Edensor Parish Church on the Chatsworth Estate.  She undertook an internship at Chatsworth House and says she always tries to visit when she is back in the UK.

At ExploreExport she will be available for one-to-one meetings on what Switzerland and Liechtenstein has to offer to help companies grow.

Anna said:

“Switzerland is a hub for international businesses and English is widely spoken; the country is globally renowned for innovation and competitiveness and can therefore teach us a great deal; the Swiss are typically friendly and reliable and are culturally similar to the Brits, so it tends to be easy for us to establish good working relationships with Swiss business partners; and according to the 2013 Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report, Switzerland had the highest average wealth per adult of any country worldwide, so people have money to spend.”

Ian Harrison, Regional Director for UKTI East Midlands said:

“With the overall value of regional exports experiencing a dip in the last quarter compared to the record highs of 2013, it is vital that we encourage more businesses to take up the international trade challenge and benefit from the support available to do so.

“There is an unbelievable appetite for British products and services overseas and there has never been a more opportune time to take advantage of these prospects.

“This Export Week there will be experts from more than 60 countries in the East Midlands to help companies ‘explore’ the possibilities of exporting to their countries. We are bringing the world to the region and we hope that the expertise and advice available, both at ExploreExport and at our other events during the week, will help businesses on the fast track to exporting success.”

ExploreExport takes place on Thursday 13 November at The Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.
