International opportunity for local life science businesses

Ambitious local life sciences businesses are to be given the chance to “pitch” their product to up to thirteen international trade experts during a special business event in Nottingham.

Run by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), in partnership with Medilink East Midlands, the Asia Pacific Life Sciences Clinic will give leading local companies, who are looking to boost profits overseas, the chance to present their products and services to the international experts and test their prospects in overseas markets.

The businesses will have 30 minutes face-to-face with each expert to explain their product and receive informed feedback.

Aurelia Bioscience, a contract research organisation based at BioCity Nottingham, took part last year and spoke to representatives from many of the Asia Pacific countries present.

Dr. Kevin Hart, Managing Director, said:

“The meetings gave us the chance to better understand the opportunities and potential in these countries, and to understand where our research services would fit against their existing life science capabilities. The meetings were extremely useful as they allowed us to gain some insight into the markets with the most potential, ultimately saving time and money by avoiding poorly focused business development endeavors. The discussions were important in developing our strategic approach to the huge Asia-Pacific region.”

The Asia Pacific Life Sciences Clinic takes place on Wednesday 3 December at BioCity in Nottingham and will feature experts from India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

UKTI Regional Director, Ian Harrison said:

“The Asia Pacific Life Sciences clinics give local firms a fantastic opportunity to find out very quickly if there is potential for their product in a new market. East Midlands businesses that want to expand into this region can come along, meet UKTI international experts from potential target markets, and know within half an hour whether it is worth pursuing the idea any further.

“Securing this type of insight is incredibly valuable.  If companies want to export then this is a fantastic way to get started. ”

Dr Darren Clark, CEO of Medilink East Midlands said:

“The life science sector is an incredibly important sector in the East Midlands, and events like this give us a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with UKTI so we can enhance the level of support we can provide to local firms.  This opportunity gives companies the chance to become very efficient in their marketing intelligence, and find out if their product is ready to hit new markets without wasting time.”
