Jon Parker has been named as the national ‘Smarter Travel Professional of the Year’ for his ‘outstanding personal contribution to sustainable transport’. Jon is a Director of consultants Integrated Transport Planning Ltd (ITP), based in the Creative Quarter of Nottingham, and the well-deserved award was made at a ceremony on February 5th in Birmingham at the Smarter Travel 2015 conference. This makes it a hat-trick of awards for both Jon, and ITP, having won the prestigious ‘Sustainability Award’ given out by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation in 2013 and 2014.
Jon is recognised as one of the UK’s leading advisors on sustainable transport, and has led some of the most important national sustainable transport programmes, including major projects for the Department for Transport, UK local authorities and major private sector businesses.
His strength lies in his ability to encourage people to think differently about how they use their cars, and deliver projects that get more people walking, cycling and using local bus services. He is currently advising on projects that are achieving a real change in travel behaviour across Nottingham, Derby, Leicestershire, Somerset, the West Midlands and Suffolk. He is also passionate about raising standards across the industry, and as such also serves as a guest lecturer and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of West of England.
Of the award Jon said ‘I was completely surprised and honoured to win this award, and look forward to continuing to work on projects that encourage people to make more sustainable travel choices’.
Jon has also been working alongside the Nottingham City Council ‘sustainable transport team’ who were also shortlisted as finalists in the ‘Team of the Year’ category at the awards.
