The largest manufacturer of UK cranes – and a D2N2 grant recipient – Street Crane, has outfitted a supply chain provider with four new cranes, weighing in at a total of 120 tonnes.
Street Crane, based in Derbyshire’s High Peak, supply cranes, hoists and components to a wide array of customers across the world. Last September (2014) it received a £150,000 Unlocking Investment for Growth (UI4G) grant from D2N2 – the Local Enterprise Partnership for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – which enabled it to expand its existing facilities and create 43 new jobs.
AV Dawson Ltd – the Teesside supply chain provider which Street Crane outfitted – will be using its four the cranes to offload steel coil from train trucks into storage, where it can then be sold to local manufacturers.

D2N2’s UI4G programme was designed to help businesses, such as Street Crane, expand and bridge funding gaps, enabling them to increase jobs and productivity in the area. In total the D2N2 UI4G programme awarded £4.7million grant funding, which helped create more than 400 new jobs and inspire employers to invest over £20m, to grow their businesses
Upon receipt of the UI4G grant, the Financial Director of Street Crane, Ian Jackson, said: “The UI4G grant will be beneficial in helping us grow and create new jobs over the next three years and beyond.”
D2N2 Chief Executive David Ralph added: “Street Crane is a great example of how our UI4G programme can help deliver jobs and support growth of local businesses.”

Unlocking Investment for Growth (UI4G) is funded by the UK’s Regional Growth Fund and the European Regional Development Fund. UI4G grant awards are given by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership‘s Investment Panel, chaired by Peter Gadsby. The aim of the fund is to create long term sustainable jobs.
UI4G is now fully committed and is no longer accepting applications. Grants already approved will create over 400 new jobs and safeguard a further 350 existing jobs. The programme has inspired business owners in the D2N2 area to invest over £20million, alongside the grant support of £4.7million, to grow their businesses. The programme is managed for D2N2 by EMB Ltd.
