A hearing charity – which recently opened a £700,000 facility built with the aid of a D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership grant – is looking to further extend its help for families.
The Ear Foundation, based in Sherwin Road, Lenton, Nottingham, provides help for people to access the latest technology to combat hearing disabilities. In April (2015) it opened its new £700,000 facility, The Sherman Centre, built with the aid of a £120,000 Unlocking Investment for Growth (UI4G) grant from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.
D2N2 is a partnership between business, local authorities, and skills and training providers which promotes economic growth and jobs creation in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Its UI4G grant scheme, now closed for project applications, was specifically aimed at creating long term sustainable jobs.

Now the Ear Foundation has applied to the One Family Foundation – an organisation which helps to fund community projects – for a Community Award of £5,000 in order to help improve the accommodation it provides for families, before they visit the Queen’s Medical Centre or Nottingham Auditory Implant Programme at Ropewalk House in the City.
The Nottingham charity has already raised money towards the refurbishment of its facilities but needs further funding. It is encouraging people to support its application to the One Family Foundation fund, by voting online in favour of its nomination at web link http://bit.ly/1GVeLeg . Voting closes at midday on June 29.
Unlocking Investment for Growth grants, funded by the UK’s Regional Growth Fund and the European Regional Development Fund, were awarded through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Investment Panel, chaired by businessman Peter Gadsby.
UI4G is now fully committed and is no longer accepting applications. Grants already approved will create 420 new jobs and safeguard a further 320 existing jobs. The programme has inspired business owners in the D2N2 area to invest over £20million, alongside the grant support of £4.7million, to grow their businesses. UI4G is managed for D2N2 by EMB Ltd.
