A leading car parts manufacturer’s relocation to a new site on a Derbyshire Enterprise Zone – invested in by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – is set to create around 400 jobs for the area.
Ferdinand Bilstein UK Ltd manufactures and distributes car parts for global names including Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and Porsche. It will move its operations in Kent and Pontefract to a new 224,966 square foot distribution centre at the Markham Vale Enterprise Zone’s North Site, close to Chesterfield and junction 29a of the M1 motorway. The move is due to be completed by December (2016).
D2N2 – the private sector-led Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) promoting economic growth and jobs in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – and its neighbour the Sheffield City Region LEP jointly invest in developing the Markham Vale site. For example, they are part-funding (with Derbyshire County Council) the £7.5million Seymour Link Road, to provide motorway access from Markham Vale to junction 29a of the M1, which is due to be completed by October 2016.
The move by Ferdinand Bilstein UK Ltd will initially create 150 new jobs, with a further 250 expected in future years.
A series of events have been organised to update people on the latest developments at Markham Vale. There will also be a chance to speak to Ferdinand Bilstein UK representatives about the jobs they will have available. The events will take place:
- Tonight (Wednesday April 13), from 3pm to 7pm at the Albert Inn, Woodthorpe Road, Woodthorpe (postcode S43 3BZ)
- Wednesday April 20, from 3pm to 7pm, at Duckmanton Methodist Church, Duckmanton Road, Duckmanton (S44 5EB)
- Wednesday April 27, from 1.30pm to 5.30pm, at Poolsbrook Miners Welfare, Cottage Close, Poolsbrook. (S43 3LP).
Paul Dodgson, Operations Director at Ferdinand Bilstein UK said: “We made the decision to move to Markham Vale as the development offers excellent transport links to the main motorway network, which was a key requirement of ours.

Enterprise Zones, like Markham Vale, offer businesses locating there tax and business rate reductions. Through its Local Growth Fund (LGF), D2N2 also invests in the Nottingham and Derby Enterprise Zone; which includes sites in Greater Nottingham and Infinity Park, near Derby.
