Best of area featured in new East Midlands Airport displays to boost export interest

New display boards featuring the best of the D2N2 area and wider East Midlands’ original foods, top companies, innovations and sites of interest went on show at East Midlands Airport for the first time today (Monday May 23).

Secretary of State for Transport, the Right Honourable Patrick McLoughlin MP, unveiled the new Government initiative to showcase what the East Midlands can offer an international audience, at East Midlands Airport this morning (Monday May 23).

UK Trade and Investment, the Government Body which looks at ways of boosting the UK’s trade overseas, launched the Airport project as part of its wider national ‘Exporting is GREAT’ campaign.

It is believed to be the first time a UK airport has used advertising or promotional displays in quite this way.

The displays will showcase East Midlands’ brands to an international audience; both those in the D2N2 area – the area covered by the private sector-led Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) promoting jobs and business growth in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – and in the wider East Midlands.

Scientific innovations which originated in the East Midlands, big brand companies, home-grown foods including Melton Mowbray pork pies and major tourist attractions such as Chatsworth House in Derbyshire are among the regional successes displayed.

Lindsay Allen, Senior Programme Manager for Sector Development, (pictured) for the D2N2 LEP – which champions business and exporting in the area, working with partners including East Midlands Airport and Government department UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) – was at the unveiling of the new displays today, meeting Mr McLoughlin and Andy Cliffe, Managing Director of East Midlands Airport.

Ian Harrison, Regional Director for UKTI in the East Midlands, said of the initiative: “These superb new visuals reinforce the message that East Midlands Airport is a gateway to global growth for regional businesses.”

Andy Cliffe, Managing Director at East Midlands Airport, added: “We’re delighted to have worked with UK Trade and Investment on this initiative to showcase some of the East Midlands best known names.”
