Over 80 businesses gathered this morning to hear all about Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s economic power, potential and future from a panel of leading experts which included the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
The Nottinghamshire Economic Forum was a free breakfast event which looked at ways to boost the economy of the Nottinghamshire area. It was run by Insider Media in association with the D2N2 Growth Hub and featured a panel of experts from the fields of local government, tourism, law, and the D2N2 LEP (pictured).
D2N2 is the LEP for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area. It works in partnership with businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers and community and voluntary organisations to help its area economy grow and flourish, with the aim of creating 55,000 new jobs in ten years (2013-2023). To this end, it set up the D2N2 Growth Hub, which sponsored this morning’s event and which works across its area to help businesses access free and impartial support and advice.
D2N2’s Chief Executive, David Ralph, spoke as part of the panel earlier today, on the importance of collaboration and partnership across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and with Derbyshire as well to help deliver on important national initiatives such as the Midlands Engine, which will look to connect the East and West Midlands via improved transport and infrastructure links.
Also on the panel were Brendan Moffett, Chief Executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Ian Curryer, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council, Sarah Walker-Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Browne Jacobson LLP and Mark Chivers, Enterprise Zone Director at Boots UK. Audience members were encouraged to question panellists and a sense of debate was maintained as range of topics were covered; including skills and training, investment opportunities, Nottinghamshire’s offer to visitors and investors, the importance of SMEs to the D2N2 economy and the wide range of industries that they cover.
David Ralph, D2N2 Chief Executive, said: “The D2N2 area has a great offer to make to investors. The expertise of Medicine and Bioscience and the Creative and Digital Industries in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire create a compelling product for investors and businesses and by further working in partnership, the D2N2 area can really shine to visitors, future investors and Government.”
