A charity which received £120,000 from D2N2 to help grow its facilities and services will be offering free hearing screening appointments to mark World Hearing Day, this Friday (March 3).
The Ear Foundation in Sherwin Road, Lenton, Nottingham, specialises in helping hearing impaired children and adults through technology.
It was able to open an additional facility – the £700,000 ‘Sherman Centre’ (pictured above) – at its base in April 2015, following a £120,000 Unlocking Investment for Growth (or UI4G) grant from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership. This enabled it to expand its services and staff numbers.
To mark ‘World Hearing Day 2017’ this Friday (March 3) The Ear Foundation is offering free hearing screening appointments to the public. Booked appointments will then be available from Monday March 13. Only a limited number of slots are available. To make a booking contact the charity on 0115 942 1985 or email: sarah.allen@earfoundation.org.uk
This year’s annual World Hearing Day is focusing on the economic impacts of hearing loss; highlighting the damage it causes to the economy, whilst also stressing the significant impact it has on the lives of those people affected.
Unlocking Investment for Growth (UI4G) – now closed – was a programme funded by the UK’s Regional Growth Fund and the European Regional Development Fund. UI4G grant awards were given by D2N2’s Investment Panel, with the aim of enabling businesses and organisation to expand, to create long term sustainable jobs.
UI4G is now fully committed and no longer accepting applications. Grants already approved will create over 400 new jobs and safeguard a further 350 existing jobs. The programme has inspired business owners in the D2N2 area to invest over £20million, alongside the grant support of £4.7million, to grow their businesses. The programme was managed for D2N2 by EMB Ltd.
