Businesses wanting to ensure that they are ready for new data protection regulations coming into force in May can learn all about them at a free event next week (February 12).
‘Getting Ready for GDPR’ – the General Data Protection Regulation – is the latest in a series of workshops (similar to pictured) in the D2N2 Digital Growth Programme. It will be held on Monday, February 12 from 8:30am to 11:00am at the Worksop Turbine Innovation Centre, Shireoaks Triangle, Coach Crescent, Shireoaks, Worksop, Nottinghamshire (S81 8AP). It is being delivered as part of the D2N2 Digital Growth Programme, part-funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
The D2N2 Digital Growth Programme, has been set up to help businesses in the D2N2 LEP’s area of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to grow, through use of existing and emerging technologies and information communications technology (ICT). Grants of up to £16,000 are available as part of the £7.2million programme.
The remaining £3.6m for the programme has come from partner organisations Nottinghamshire County, Nottingham City, Derbyshire County, Derby City and Rushcliffe Borough Council; Nottingham’s Creative Quarter Company and the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire); and also through businesses participating in the grant element of the Programme.
D2N2 is the LEP for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area and works with its areas businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers and community and voluntary organisations to grow its areas economy, with the aim of creating 55,000 new jobs in ten years (2013-2023). D2N2 also has an allocation of European Funding, which includes the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which is designed to help businesses to grow and become more competitive in a number of ways.
Next Monday’s seminar will focus on how to successfully prepare for the upcoming changes, as well as the key steps businesses need to take to ensure they are protected and prepared for when the new regulations take effect.
The seminar will cover:
- Keeping a record of data operations and activities
- Undertaking a data privacy impact assessment (PIA) for systems and projects
- Discovering if a designated data protection officer (DPO) is required.
- Notifying the supervisory authority of a data breach
- Reviewing data processing processes
- Implementing “privacy by design” and “privacy by default”
- Handling an enquiry from the Information commissioner should a business receive a call or spot check.
