Growth and partnership on the agenda at Rushcliffe Civic Dinner

Leading figures from business, education, local government, the community and elsewhere attended the annual Rushcliffe Civic Reception and Dinner on Friday night (February 9), to hear speakers including D2N2 Local Enterprise Chair Peter Richardson (pictured).

The annual event, hosted this year by Rushcliffe Mayor Councillor Barrie Cooper, was held at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, focused on the theme of growth in the Rushcliffe borough and the county generally.

Among the invited speakers was D2N2 LEP Chair Peter Richardson. His speech touched on a number of issues and topics relating to growth, with which the LEP is closely involved. The D2N2 LEP is a private-sector led partnership of businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers, and community and voluntary sector organisations which works to grow jobs and the economy of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire.

Significant growth and economic opportunities affecting Rushcliffe over the last 12 months have included:

  • The announcement of an award of £9.9million from the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund, for the Fairham Pastures housing development, south of Clifton.
  • Work beginning on Cotgrave’s new Multi-Service Centre; for residents to access health services, library, Police and a Rushcliffe Borough Council contact point under one roof.
  • The D2N2 LEP providing £1.8m (via its Local Growth Fund allocation) for 15 new light industrial units at Cotgrave, as part of a wider £10.5m regeneration scheme for the area. Phase Two of the works to regenerate Cotgrave Town Centre is set to be completed by January 2019.
