Gedling Signs up to Derby Nottingham Metro Strategy

Better links between councils and businesses and residents in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire (D2N2) area are now even stronger now that Gedling Borough Council has formally signed up to be part of the Derby Nottingham Metro Strategy.

Created in November of last year (2017), the Derby Nottingham Metro Strategy was created to help boost enterprise, talent, city living and connectivity across the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area and it is also being backed by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

D2N2 is the Local Enterprise Partnership for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area and works with its areas businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers and community and voluntary organisations, to create 55,000 new jobs in ten years.

The Derby Nottingham Metro Strategy looks at four key aims in order to deliver greater economic growth. These are:

  • Enterprise -promoting Derby and Nottingham worldwide, and supporting businesses to innovate and find new markets. The D2N2 Growth Hub, set up by D2N2 LEP, has been running for over 3 years, and continues to help D2N2 area SMEs to access the support and finance they need to grow.
  • Talent – ensuring a suitably skilled workforce, through education and training. D2N2 works across its area to create a future workforce with the skills needed and wanted by D2N2 area businesses, including the recent signoff of the Nottingham City Hub last week (March 29).
  • City Living – supporting a modern urban lifestyle and vibrant city centres through leisure, culture and sport. D2N2 helped to part-fund the Castleward development in Derby City Centre, which is helping to create new city centre accommodation and housing.
  • Connectivity – improving accessibility through better transport links. D2N2 is part-funding a number of key road improvements across its area, including the A61 Corridor and the Wyvern Way Works in Derbyshire, and the Harworth Access Road and Newark Southern Link Road in Nottinghamshire.
