D2N2 Chairman Peter Richardson (pictured centre-right) met with the Prime Minister today (June 19), as part of the first Council of Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Chairs.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May met with the leaders of England’s Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) today to celebrate their achievements to date and to map out key areas for cooperation under the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
D2N2 is the Local Enterprise Partnership for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and works with Government, businesses, local authorities, skills and training providers and community and voluntary sector organisations, to grow its areas economy.
As part of this mission, D2N2 is led by its board. This is made up of a mixture of senior businesspeople from the public, private, voluntary and educational sectors across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, in order to ensure that all parts of the D2N2 economy are fairly represented and heard when decisions are made.
At today’s meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that LEP leadership truly represented the communities they served, as well as noting the steady growth of the economy in recent years and the record levels of employment; crediting this progress to the joint efforts of LEPs, Government and private sector entrepreneurs in driving growth across the country.
Today marks the first ever meeting of the Prime Minister’s Council of LEP Chairs, made up of business leaders representing each LEP. Talks focussed on where LEPs carry maximum impact: how the objectives of the Modern Industrial Strategy can be delivered in local areas, and investing in the skills people and businesses need.
LEPs reinforced their commitment to help deliver a national Industrial Strategy, using their strengths and expertise to lead local strategies for economic growth and partner more effectively with local government.
The Council of Local Enterprise Partnership Chairs was announced in the 2017 Industrial Strategy White Paper as a new forum for LEP business leaders to help shape national policy decisions and ensure closer cooperation with the Government on Industrial Strategy objectives.

“Local Enterprise Partnerships play a vital role in supporting businesses and innovation across England. From the New Anglia aviation academy – the first of its kind in the UK – to Enterprise M3’s 5G innovation centre, LEPs are developing skills, delivering infrastructure, and securing investment.
That’s why our Modern Industrial Strategy is clear that they must continue to play a crucial role in our plans to deliver further growth in local economies.
Today’s first meeting of the Council marks a milestone in this partnership. By working even more closely together, we will continue to maximise our efforts in creating jobs, growth and investment right across the country, delivering long-term, meaningful results for local communities.”
