HS2‘s economic effects and how to sustain Midlands’ growth were among questions tackled by D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Chair Elizabeth Fagan, as a panel member today (March 13) at global property and development conference MIPIM.
The largest annual global property and developers’ conference is again being held in in Cannes, southern France, this week (March 12-15). Influential property industry people, developers and potential investors from around the globe gather for four days of networking, learning and property deals through a series of events, conferences and exhibition zones.
The D2N2 LEP – the private sector-led Partnership which promotes economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – is part-funding ‘Team Nottingham‘ and ‘Team Derby‘, at MIPIM to showcase potential investment opportunities in their areas; who are also part of the wider Midlands’ contingent promoting key sites in the region.
D2N2 Chair Elizabeth Fagan (pictured centre on above panel photo) and Deputy Chair David Williams are also attending MIPIM 2019 as business guest speakers.
This morning (March 13) Elizabeth took part in a panel discussion at the Palais Des Festivals entitled ‘Game-changers’. Fellow panellists were:
- Dean Banks, CEO for UK Construction Services at Balfour Beatty
- James Danby, Head of Commercial Development for HS2 Phase One North
- Tony Pidgley CBE, Chair of the Berkeley Group
- Jane Richards, Director of Building Structures UK at engineering construction company WSP.
The panel tackled questions including overseas investment in the Midlands, maximising the economic benefits of an HS2 line through the Midlands (an HS2 Phase 2b line is proposed to be running though the D2N2 LEP region itself by 2033), the Midlands competing as a place to live against London, and how to sustain growth and development of the region?
D2N2’s Chair had also appeared at earlier MIPIM events, speaking to welcome audiences to both Team Derby and Team Nottingham’s presentations on their area’s development potential for investors.
