The benefits of working with the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership area’s industries and supply chains for one of the UK’s biggest airports were showcased at a Nottingham event.
London Heathrow Airport is the UK’s busiest airport and one of the world’s largest. It is running UK business summits around the country; giving small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) the chance to link into Heathrow supply chains and, together with the Department for International Trade, explore export opportunities.
An East Midlands Heathrow Business Summit was held at Nottingham city centre’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday (June 14); at which one of the speakers was Lindsay Wetton, D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Senior Programme Manager for Business Engagement (pictured).
The D2N2 LEP is the private sector-led Partnership which promotes economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. One of the ways it does this is by supporting key sectors, ones in which the LEP’s area already has or could develop a competitive advantage over other areas.
Lindsay told Business Summit delegates about the strength of the Construction sector in the D2N2 LEP area; with an estimated 6,680 businesses directly or indirectly involved in the sector across the area. She also highlighted LEP efforts to respond to demand for more trained people in the engineering, electronic and civil engineering sectors.
Heathrow representatives told the Nottingham audience that SMEs had been crucial to the development of past major projects at the airport, including Terminals 2 and 5, and would continue to be so in the future.
Exhibitors attended the Nottingham event to support and guide businesses, on how to connect and build trade relations into new supply chains at Heathrow.
The Airport has run the Business Summits series for over 20 years, providing a platform for SMEs to meet face-to-face with some of its largest suppliers and to connect them to new contacts. For more information see website https://your.heathrow.com/heathrow-business-summit/
