Millhouse Roundabout works starting in February – part funded by D2N2

Work is due to start on a major North Nottinghamshire road scheme next month which is set to ease traffic congestion, improve journey times and unlock development land for housing and businesses.

The A57/A60/B6024 Millhouse roundabout is south-west of Worksop, and is located between and close to both the M1 motorway and main A1. This £2.4million project will consist of installing traffic signals at key points on the routes, which will improve overall connectivity and provide access to new opportunities for property developers.

D2N2 is providing £1.8million for the project and is joint-funding the improvement of this area with the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and Nottinghamshire County Council. D2N2 is a private sector-led Local Enterprise Partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers and community organisations. It works to promote economic growth and jobs creation across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Funding will come from D2N2’s Local Growth Fund (LGF). D2N2’s total LGF of £192.2m is being used to create infrastructure (transport networks, facilities and widening broadband access) to promote economic growth in the LEP’s area.

It is estimated the £2.4m project will help provide access to more than 75 hectares of employment land, mainly along Worksop’s A57 corridor; which could then directly host up to 4,900 jobs and indirectly generate around a further 1,100 in the town, due to the expected increases in trade and retail footfall. It is also expected to accelerate housing growth, creating up to 1,600 homes.

Nottinghamshire County Council highways division will be the main contractor on the A57/A60 project. The work is due to start on February 15 and finish in late September (2016).

David Ralph, Chief Executive of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Businesses obviously need good transport connections but, by improving access to potential development land, these networks also make new spaces viable for commercial and housing development.

“D2N2’s Local Growth Fund allocation offers the area an unprecedented opportunity to take a strategic approach, to building the infrastructure needed to promote economic growth and create new jobs, benefiting all communities.”
