Improved journey times and better access to businesses and services will be available in Nottingham from Monday (November 20), thanks to a project part-funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
The Ecolink bus is part of the eco-expressway, which aims to provide low-carbon public transport from Vale Road in Colwick (NG4 2GL) to the Manvers Street/Sneinton Hermitage Junction in Sneinton (NG2 4PG). From November 20, (Monday), it will take a new route to improve journey times and allow better access to key business and services.
D2N2, the Local Enterprise Partnership for the Nottinghamshire area, has allocated £6.1million of its Local Growth Fund to the wider Southern Growth Corridor Project, which encompasses the Eco-Expressway. It is hoped that the entire Eco-Expressway will be completed by the end of 2018.
Another key development which this will feed into is the Nottingham Cycle City Ambition, a £6.1million project which is also funded by D2N2’s Local Growth Fund and which will provide bespoke cycle corridors which run from the University of Nottingham to Colwick (East-West) and Bulwell to Clifton (North-South). Construction of the Western Cycle Corridor (pictured) is already complete, and construction on the Eastern Cycle Corridor will take place at the same time as the works on the Eco-Expressway.
The two main changes to the Ecolink service are that the stop at Colwick Racecourse Park & Ride will move onto Daleside Road, which will mean that buses will no longer have to divert off the main route. The stop will be connected to the car park by a newly built walkway and pedestrian crossing.
The second major change to the route will see the Ecolink divert to service the NHS Urgent Care Centre and BioCity. The amended route towards the city will turn left on Manvers Street down City Link stopping by the NHS urgent care centre. The bus will then turn up Lace Way, past the new 700 space car park currently under construction at the Island Site and BioCity before re-joining the original route on Pennyfoot Street.
Travelling away from the city, the Ecolink will turn right on the London Road roundabout and then left past the BBC, stopping by the NHS urgent care centre before continuing along City Link past the new car park and re-joining the original route on Manvers Street.
The Ecolink bus runs from Victoria Retail Park in Netherfield to the intu Victoria Centre every 15 minutes and services Colwick Park and Ride on route.
