Collection of awards for Derby’s Museum of Making

The Museum of Making is on a run of excellent achievements with success in a series of prestigious industry awards.

The new museum, which opened on 21 May 2021, received £3.7m of Local Growth Funding from D2N2 LEP towards the redevelopment of the famous site, turning it into a world-class tourist destination.

The Museum is located in the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands on the site of the world’s first factory, the Derby Silk Mill.

The month of achievements started with the Constructing Excellence East Midlands Awards, which are recognised as the biggest and brightest celebration of best practise in the region. At the ceremony, the Museum of Making took home a very impressive five trophies, including the highlight of the evening – the Winner of Winners award! Along with the top prize, the project was named as the winner for:

  • Building Project of the Year
  • Conservation and Regeneration Award
  • Innovation Award
  • People Development (Speller Metcalfe)

This week, the good news continued at the National Construction News Awards which brought together more than 900 of the UK’s leading clients and contractors for a glittering evening of celebration. The Museum of Making fought off strong competition to be named winner of “Project of the Year Under £25m” category.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
