New report shines a light on Careers Hub impact
A new report published today by the Careers and Enterprise Company highlights the impact that Careers Hubs are having on young people’s career readiness. Young people believe that they are now better prepared than ever before to move into jobs after school as a result of careers education.
The D2N2 Careers Hub brings together schools, colleges, employers and apprenticeship providers across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to improve their careers programmes and secure better long term outcomes for young people.
In the report, one of the largest surveys of its kind of 35,000 young people, 74% of young people say they are career ready in Year 13 rising from 45% in Year7. Awareness of apprenticeships also improves significantly, from 39% in year 7 to 81% by Year 11.
One of the key findings of the report is that young people who face most barriers benefit more from careers education. Where a school has achieved all of the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of good careers guidance, the report demonstrates that the odds of a young person from a disadvantaged community being NEET (not in education, employment or training) reduces by 20 per cent. Such a reduction in NEET levels saves taxpayers £150m a year.

Progress continues to be made on improving the quality, relevance and frequency of careers advice and inspiration but we must continuously strive to ensure that every young person get the advice they need to make their next best step.’
