Last month our Employment and Skills Manager, Richard Kirkland, represented D2N2 LEP at the Chesterfield Champions celebration event led by Destination Chesterfield.
The evening reception at Chesterfield College celebrated the manufacturing, engineering, science, technology, property and construction industries and careers in the town.
Dominic Stevens, Destination Chesterfield Manager, opened the event by welcoming and thanking the Champions, whose role is to champion the various industries and employment opportunities that exist in Chesterfield. There was then a keynote address by Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council on the Chesterfield Skills Action plan, followed by presentations from industry partners and from Richard Kirkland, our Employment and Skills Manager, on the D2N2 LEP Skills Bootcamps offer.

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer. These courses are fully-funded and are free for learners.
Skills Bootcamps are being delivered in partnership with employers, further education training providers and local government. The training and support available is aligned with local and national demand for skills, ensuring that people have direct line of sight to a job and support people to get skills for life.
Richard said:

Coinciding with the Chesterfield Champions event, the Made in Chesterfield campaign was launched for the tenth time. The campaign is aimed at closing skills gaps by inspiring young people about local Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) industries, with businesses, schools and training providers coming together to showcase their sectors and the various career opportunities available within them. Enthusing young people about STEM is a key priority for our D2N2 Careers Hub programme.
