We are delighted to announce that our Deputy Chair, David Williams MBE, has been appointed to the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) shadow board.
The shadow board will steer the creation of the new EMCCA, ahead of the election for the very first East Midlands Mayor on 2 May.
David will take on the role of interim business representative on the shadow board, joining local politicians from the four key councils involved in the East Midlands devolution deal.
In his new role, David will work with the shadow EMCCA team to establish the new Business Advisory Board for the combined authority, define its terms of reference and its membership and, crucially, how it will ensure the voice of business is represented at the heart of EMCCA governance.
David said:
“I’m passionate about the East Midlands – it’s been my home for more than thirty years – and I’m delighted that the establishment of the new East Midlands Combined County Authority will bring a new mayor, new powers and more funding to make a hugely positive impact for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
I’m honoured and privileged to have been asked to play my part as interim business representative for the shadow EMCCA board. I’ll be building on my work as Deputy Chair of D2N2 LEP, convening and representing businesses, partners and stakeholders to ensure a strong economic and inward investment strategy for low carbon economic growth, skills, transport and housing and to raise the profile and status of our region.”
Alongside his role as Deputy Chair of D2N2 LEP, David is Chair of Geldards LLP. He also holds a number of non-executive director and trustee positions across East Midlands organisations, including Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Derbyshire, Director of Nottingham Regeneration Limited, Board member and Deputy Chair of the Employment Policy Committee at Nottingham Trent University and a non-executive Director of East Midlands Chamber.
