Earlier this week, Will Morlidge, D2N2 LEP Chief Executive and Co-Chair of East Midlands Hydrogen, addressed an audience of investors at the UK’s Real Estate Infrastructure and Investment Forum (UKREiiF) in Leeds. During his keynote, Will highlighted the seven priorities of the East Midlands Hydrogen consortium and the investment and collaboration opportunities it offers.
Will said:
“East Midlands Hydrogen is an industry-led, public-private partnership, aimed at boosting the energy revolution in the East Midlands by growing the UK’s largest inland hydrogen cluster. 20 major employers have said they need more than ten terawatt-hours of hydrogen per year to decarbonise their operations, and we’re working to ensure as much of that is generated and stored in the East Midlands as possible. It was brilliant to talk to delegates at UKREiiF about our ambitions and explain our collaborative approach.”
East Midlands Hydrogen is supported by lead partners D2N2 LEP, Cadent, Uniper, Toyota, East Midlands Freeport, Midlands Engine, Leicester and Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and the Midlands Net Zero Hub. Alongside the lead partners, there’s a range of over 60 supporting businesses from different industrial sectors that form the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium.
Will was joined by Wayne Bexton, Director of Green Growth, Investment and Assets at Nottinghamshire County Council and Co-Chair of the D2N2 LEP Low Carbon Growth Group, who explained to delegates what other net zero initiatives are in place, including Local Area Energy Plans, which aim to reduce the region’s carbon footprint through analysing energy demand and recommending net zero solutions at street-level.
