Nottingham Means Business Unveiled As Award Finalist

Nottingham Means Business (NMB) continues to live up to its name…the growing organisation has been shortlisted for Midlands Business Club of the Year at the upcoming Midlands Business Awards, with two of its members also securing places in the final shortlist.

NMB is an influential business led organisation with representation across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, working closely with Nottingham City Council’s inward investment team to support and encourage investment in the city and county.

NMB is at the core of Nottingham’s entrepreneurial centre, quickly becoming the place for businesses to make invaluable connections with like-minded businesses in the region.

Simon Gray, chief executive of NMB, said: “It’s fantastic that NMB has been recognised for its work, our membership continues to grow and I’m thrilled that we’re joined by two of our members who have also been shortlisted as finalists”.

NMB, previously known as Invest in Nottingham Club, has been an integral part of business in the Nottingham since its conception in 2008, however through a new brand and structure the organisation has continued to support business growth across the region.

NMB member Chinook Sciences, a clean technology group, also scooped a place on the Midlands Business Awards shortlist for Midlands Innovation of the Year. The group have continued to be recognised for its use of renewable energy.

Steve Martin, business development manager at Chinook Sciences said:  “Chinook has continued to be at the forefront of renewable energy and this year has shown the extent of this, we have already been awarded a number of awards including a Queen’s Award for Enterprise this year. Being shortlisted for the Midlands Innovation of the Year, highlights our innovative development operations which are based in Nottingham and one of our plants which is currently being commissioned in Oldbury – reflecting the company’s extensive work in the region.”

Yu Energy, an energy supplier based in Nottingham and new member of Nottingham Means Business, has been recognised for its ground-breaking customer service, and has been listed as a finalist for Midlands Service Provider of the Year.

Bobby Kalar, managing director at Yu Energy said: “We are thrilled to be recognised for our outstanding customer service at the Midlands Business Awards, this shortlist shows that our customers value the service that we give. We will continue to give all of our customers the highest level of customer service possible, as this is integral to Yu Energy’s ethos.”

Paul Southby, chairman of NMB, added: “This is a real compliment, not just for the club, but for Nottingham itself. For the city to have such a strong independent business club working alongside it and supporting its ambitious plan to grow the local economy and bring in new investment is unique.

“This award is testament to the energy and drive of our board and all our members who support Nottingham’s plans for growth, but in particular to Simon Gray who took over late last year as chief executive. The incredible work of the organisation’s founder Jim Taylor has been picked up by Simon, who has taken the baton and run with it, ensuring the organisation continues to go from strength to strength.”
