Business leaders and the education sector in Ashfield and Mansfield are being urged to come together to address employability and skills in the area at a free conference on November 15 at the Summit Centre in Ashfield.
Speakers at the event include Nottinghamshire County Council Leader Kay Cutts, D2N2 Head of People & Skills Rachel Quinn, and West Notts College’s Louise Knott.
Amongst the topics to be discussed will be addressing the skills gap, automation, and higher levels of unemployment than the national average in the local area.
Organisers including D2N2, Futures, Nottinghamshire County Council, The Careers & Enterprise Company, Ashfield District Council, and Mansfield District Council hope that the event will go some way to strengthening links between education providers and local businesses to ensure school leavers are work-ready.
The event is part of a concerted strategy, led by D2N2, to ensure employers and education providers work collaboratively to ensure young people leaving education have both the skills employers in the area require and are also aware of the employment opportunities available to them.
D2N2 Careers Hub Lead Dan Heffernan said: “The Summit on Friday will bring together businesses and education providers who are eager to understand more about how our network can support them.”
“Through initiatives like our Enterprise Adviser Network, volunteers from business will work directly with school and college leaders to bridge the gap between the worlds of work and employment, bringing business and education closer together. This, in turn, will enhance the opportunities for young people across Mansfield and Ashfield”
Enterprise Adviser Network
A key initiative in efforts to address the skills gap, D2N2 operates The Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The scheme is designed to build stronger links between schools and employers in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in order to help young people better realise their career potential.
It does this by introducing and Supporting Enterprise Advisers (EAs) from the local business community as they help shape a local school’s careers advice strategy, better-preparing students for the changing workplace.
