Creative Companies – we want to hear from you!

Are you are Creative Company in the D2N2 (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire) area? If so, we want to hear from you in our Creative Industries survey.

The Creative Quarter is working with a range of partners in the D2N2 region (including Broadway, Quad, CIN – Derby Creative Industries Network, Creative Greenhouse, New Art Exchange, The Hive, Nottingham Trent University, University of Derby, Katapult and many SMEs from the private sector and others) to create a Sector Development Plan for the Creative Industries across the region.

One of our partners in the project, Nottingham Trent University, have been commissioned to gather and update information about the region’s Creative Industries in order to understand the sector’s needs and ensure that future support helps the sector to thrive.

This survey has been designed to find out more about the individual businesses that make up the sector across the D2N2 area – their activities, needs and obstacles to success. This will help to provide evidence to raise the sector’s profile and back-up forthcoming plans and proposals for business support initiatives. The creative industries are a thriving sector in the region and nationally and we want to ensure that the sector receives the best possible support in order to grow and generate jobs and economic prosperity for the region, as well as building its reputation for creative, digital and cultural production regionally, nationally and internationally.

Everyone who runs a business operating in the creative industries in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire is welcome to complete the survey – from sole-traders to those with large businesses, community interest companies, charities and public organisations. There are 25 questions, and it will take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete, on PC, tablet or smartphone.

D2N2 LEP Chief Executive David Ralph, said: “The Creative Industries are playing a key role in the upturn of our local economies and we want to make sure we continue to do the right things to help them flourish. So if you are a company working in the creative industries in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby or Derbyshire, please take a few minutes to complete the survey and help us make sure we put the correct foundations in place for continued success.”

Councillor Nick McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs and Growth and Creative Quarter Board member, said: “In Nottingham we have seen the transformative effect that the Creative Industries are having on our city, in particular in our designated Creative Quarter where many creative companies are flourishing and creating new jobs and opportunities. We must ensure this success continues and this survey will help us to shape how the D2N2 Partnership does that in the future.”

Dawn Foote, Managing Director of Katapult, an SME based in Derby who provide innovative marketing and design solutions for high tech manufacturing and technology businesses as well as the leisure & entertainment sector, has encouraged businesses to complete the survey, commenting: “We have already seen a good return of the survey because businesses in the creative sector really want to make a difference and to create employment. They are also working at the cutting edge of innovation and with new technology and this often means that they need new kinds of skills and work in new ways.

“This survey will help us to understand how the D2N2 Partnership can support the development of the sector so it can be agile, innovative and contribute to economic growth in the region. We urge you to take the time to complete it – the more we know about business needs, the better we can support you. I am very much enjoying being part of the working group and this process. It’s vital that the private sector get involved,  have their say and help  provide insights into the strength and also support the sector would benefit from to further thrive in the region.”
