D2N2 holds first in series of Strategic Economic Plan consultation events

The first in a series of five free public consultation events on the future of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership area’s economy was held today (November 6).

Businesses and other organisations are being given the opportunity to shape the future of an area with an economic output worth over £45billion.

Five free public events are being staged by D2N2 this month (November), to consult businesses and others on how they think the LEP area’s economy should develop in the next decade up to 2030.

D2N2 is the private sector-led Local Enterprise Partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers, and community and voluntary organisations which promotes economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

It manages over £500million in resources (via funding from the UK Government and European Union) to invest in its business growth, capital projects, infrastructure, employment promotion and other services. Programmes are guided by its long term, Strategic Economic Plan (or SEP); which is now being refreshed and updated to meet the LEP area’s changing economic needs, up to 2030.

The first of five consultations was held this morning at the New Art Exchange in Nottingham.

Around 40 delegates heard from D2N2 Interim Chief Executive Sajeeda Rose and Growth Plan Manager Matthew Wheatley on the ‘refresh’ of the SEP; and guest speaker Matthew Varley, Director of Estates and Capital Projects at Nottingham College, on D2N2’s £30m investment towards the College’s planned £58m Nottingham City Hub skills and training centre.

A further four free SEP consultation events will be held:

  • Tomorrow (Wednesday November 7) – At the Proact Chesterfield FC Stadium, Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, (S41 8NZ). Time, 1.15pm to 3.15pm.
  • Tuesday November 13 – At The Oakham Suite, 155 Nottingham Road, Mansfield, (NG18 4AE). Time, 8.30am to 10.30am.
  • Wednesday November 14– At the University of Derby Enterprise Centre, Bridge Street, Derby, (DE1 3LD). Time, 8.30am to 10.30am.
  • Thursday November 15 – Again, at the Proact Chesterfield FC Stadium n Chesterfield. Time, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

To book to attend any of these free events go to the D2N2 Events web page at www.d2n2lep.org/Events

All events will feature a presentation on the Strategic Economic Plan proposals and an open discussion, for the audience to join in. There will also be information on D2N2’s wider work promoting economic growth in the area.

As well as attending these events, individuals and organisations can also give their views on the ‘refreshed’, draft Strategic Economic Plan by completing an online survey form at the web link HERE.

Examples of the research undertaken by D2N2 to inform the refreshed SEP can also be found on its website at www.d2n2lep.org/Growth/Evidence-Base
