D2N2 LEP leads inaugural meeting of the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium

Yesterday we held the first meeting of the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium, chaired by our Chief Executive, Will Morlidge.

East Midlands Hydrogen’s ambition is to accelerate the development of, and attract investment to, the growing cluster of concentrated hydrogen demand, production and distribution infrastructure in the East Midlands.

During the meeting, delegates heard progress updates on the seven priority commitments for East Midlands Hydrogen, which are:

1 – Support bids for investment in low carbon hydrogen production and storage

2 – Drive the development of hydrogen distribution infrastructure

3 – Encourage fuel switching to hydrogen by industrial and commercial organisations

4 – Ensure that hydrogen is accounted for in Local Area Energy Planning

5 – Grow our hydrogen education and skills offering

6 – Accelerate hydrogen freight decarbonisation

7 – Promote and support hydrogen technology companies and regional innovation

Will said:

“It’s great that the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium has now grown to over 60 members. During our first meeting we wanted to share updates on what’s happened since we launched last year. We also facilitated our members, who work across the full hydrogen value stream, to share insights and network and I’m excited about the potential to stimulate future collaboration and investment.”

Sally Brewis, Head of Regional Development at Cadent and co-chair of the consortium said:

“We were delighted to update Consortium members on the work that we and other partners have been doing towards our seven commitments. They cover all aspects of hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, distribution, fuel switching, planning, education and skills, freight decarbonisation, supporting hydrogen technology companies and regional innovation.  That’s why our Consortium is so uniquely placed; we’ve got the end-to-end hydrogen value proposition completely covered, as an intrinsic part of our partnership.”

D2N2 LEP and Cadent are the lead partners for East Midlands Hydrogen and the co-chairs are Will Morlidge and Sally Brewis.
