Derby leads from the front at MIPIM as the UK’s ‘Capital for Innovation’

Derby will deliver its strongest message yet at this year’s MIPIM, the global commercial property show held annually in Cannes.

At MIPIM in March, the East Midlands city will greet delegates at a number of high profile events over the four days in Cannes.

Derby’s reputation as a leading hi-tech city precedes it and presentations of its latest projects at MIPIM include the £200 million Infinity Park Derby, a new commercial and technology park with Enterprise Zone status. IPD will create up to 8,000 new jobs and host a cutting-edge research facility to support the engineering SMEs of tomorrow.

Due to this reputation, Derby has been invited to present the city as a case study at the prestigious Innovation Forum, with a strong team including Ian Campbell, Head of Global Property at Rolls-Royce plc and Prof Richard Hall, Director of the Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering at the University of Derby. This is a significant opportunity to pitch Derby alongside other major European cities including Barcelona, raising the profile of the city and its key developments.

Derby’s landmark annual Derby City Embassy takes place at breakfast on Wednesday. This sell-out event is an opportunity for the city to share intelligence on its major development announcements and this year will premiere a new Capital for Innovation film.

Team Derby partners include:

  • The Leader and Deputy Chief Executive of Derby City Council,
  • The Chairman and CEO of D2N2 (the Local Enterprise Partnership for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire),
  • Marketing Derby,
  • The University of Derby
  • A number of key city businesses including Rolls-Royce and Smith of Derby.

Bob Betts, Chair of Marketing Derby said: “This year we are showcasing Derby as an attractive location for businesses, investors and developers by focusing on global technology and research and development. From creative design to the world HQ of Rolls-Royce civil aerospace, Derby has always been at the cutting edge of technology and, at MIPIM, the city will actively go out to businesses across the UK, Europe and worldwide, offering global business opportunities few other cities in the UK can.”
