Design Workshop will help businesses bring their ideas to life

Businesses can learn how to develop ideas from concept to finished design, at a free workshop held later this week.

Enabling Innovation: Design Ideas to Production, is being held on Wednesday, November 1 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Nottingham Trent University, Shakespeare Street, Nottingham (NG1 4FQ). It is free to attend and is being run as part of the Enabling Innovation programme, part-funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

D2N2 is the LEP for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area and works across its area to boost the economy and create jobs. As part of this, D2N2 has allocated £10million from its European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) allocation to the Enabling Innovation programme. This is a 3 year programme run by Nottingham Trent, Nottingham and Derby Universities.

ERDF is part of a larger set of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), used to boost the economy across England. D2N2 has an allocation of ERDF, used to support businesses and business growth, European Social Fund, used to tackle social exclusion and long term unemployment, and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, used to help rural businesses innovate and grow.

Enabling Innovation looks to help businesses in the D2N2 area become more competitive by helping them to access graduate knowledge and university resources to develop and create products and services through workshops, one-to-one support and advice and coaching. Wednesday’s workshop will look to teach attendees all about:

  • Idea development and selection
  • Creative thinking
  • How to develop and add detail to ideas
  • 2D & 3D sketching techniques – with short exercises
  • Prototyping uses, techniques, tools, – with examples
  • Prototype testing
  • Manufacture/process selection & designing for chosen process

Enabling Innovation: Design Ideas to Production is one of a set. It will be followed by an extra session the following week, looking at prototyping on a budget. All events are free to attend, but attendees must register in advance. To attend this event, businesses must be eligible for support from the Enabling Innovation Programme.
