Education expert appointed as ‘Careers Champion’ for D2N2 LEP area

An experienced educator has been appointed by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, for a project already helping schools and businesses to jointly improve young people’s career prospects.

Phil Crompton – most recently the Chief Executive Officer of the Nottinghamshire-based Trent Academies Group; a multi-academy trust which includes Rushcliffe School, Farnborough Academy and Arnold Hill Academy – has been appointed as a Careers Champion for the LEP’s area, for the 2018/19 academic year.

D2N2 is the private sector-led Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) promoting economic, jobs and business growth across its area of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

With its Government-backed partner, the Careers & Enterprise Company, D2N2 runs the Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) in its area. This features nine Enterprise Coordinators aiding 90 Enterprise Advisers, volunteer businesspeople, in working with around 100 schools; to widen pupils’ experience of and attitudes to the world of work. Stronger links between schools and businesses are seen as essential to giving students more and better career options which, in turn, will help provide local businesses with the skilled employees they need to flourish.

Phil’s new role will be to promote the Enterprise Adviser Network to senior educators, in schools in the LEP’s area.

He said: “The new D2N2 LEP Careers Strategy is an important step forward and I think that school leaders will see me as someone who understands the obstacles they face in fully implementing it. I have met a lot of local employers and I know they want to help schools to nurture the workforce the region needs.”

Rachel Quinn – the D2N2 LEP’s Careers, Employability & Inclusion Manager – added: “Phil will add an extra dimension to our team. His strong track record in education will help us to engage more effectively with schools.  His input will not only help support schools to meet the new careers requirements they are facing but also realise the benefits of doing so; for schools, young people and our local economy.”

Schools and businesspeople interested in joining the Enterprise Adviser Network can contact Phil via email on philcrompton23@gmail.com  or via Twitter on @PhilCrompton3 .
