First of D2N2’s 2016 Business Breakfasts series held at Derby Silk Mill

The first in a series of six free D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Business Breakfasts for 2016 has been held today (October 11) at the Derby Silk Mill.

Each year D2N2 – a private sector-led partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers, and community and voluntary services which promotes economic growth and jobs creation across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – holds a series of free business breakfast events at different venues across its area; to hear from businesses, update them on its activities on their behalf and to engage them in future projects.

This morning’s Business Breakfast, the first of six to be held almost weekly between now and the end of November, was held at the Derby Silk Mill, in Derby city centre.

Around 40 delegates heard from speakers:

  • David Ralph, Chief Executive of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – On the LEP’s recent activities and  future plans, and also on readying the LEP area for the potential economic boost from the proposed eastern leg of the HS2 high speed rail project passing through Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
  • Tom Goshawk, D2N2 Capital Projects Assistant – On how D2N2’s £192million Local Growth Fund allocation is building vital economic infrastructure; by investing in projects such as Derby’s Infinity Park site (part of the Nottingham and Derby Enterprise Zone), the city’s £100m Castleward housing and commercial property development and in the £30m extension to BioCity Nottingham, currently taking shape on Plough Lane in Nottingham.
  • Guest business speaker, entrepreneur, businesswoman and TV business expert Kavita Oberoi (pictured below) – Who spoke on her journey as a businesswoman, including her founding of successful enterprise Oberoi Consulting, based in Derby’s Pride Park.

David Ralph, D2N2 Chief Executive, said: “We had an excellent turnout for our first of the 2016 Business Breakfasts, with an enagaged audience keen to hear what we have been doing to grow the local economy and employment opportunities. Over the course of our six events, held across the LEP’s area, we intend to speak to more than 300 delegates.”

More free D2N2 Business Breakfasts will follow in Nottingham (October 19), Chesterfield (November 3), Mansfield (November 10), Matlock (November 16) and Worksop (November 23). Tickets are still available for these. To book online to attend click HERE.
