FRANCHISING experts will be speaking at a free seminar in Derby next week which aims to advise local companies about post termination restrictions in franchising of business models and brands and in employment.
The seminar, which focuses on restrictive covenants in employment and franchising,is being delivered by local law firm Nelsons Solicitors and is designed to provide an essential overview on the topic. Attendees will gain an important update about the key issues involved, including an overview of restrictive covenants and why they are needed.
At the event on October 7, which is being held at Nelsons Derby office in Lodge Lane, experts will explore restrictive covenants in employment contracts, including the basic legal position, areas of restriction, case law principles and drafting points.
Gurmeet Jakhu, partner at Nelsons Solicitors and a franchise law expert, said: “We will be giving business people advice about all the issues raised by restrictive covenants in franchise agreements, as well as providing an overview of franchising and its key issues, underlying concepts, EC Community law, holding over, pitfalls and practical reminders.”
A previous lecturer at British Franchising Association events across the UK, Gurmeet Jakhu has also spoken internationally on franchising, intellectual property and dispute issues on behalf of WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
He added: “The seminar is free to attend and will provide advice that will bolster the success of both existing and newly set-up franchised businesses.”
Alongside Gurmeet at the seminar will be partner at Nelsons Jenny Kinman who has extensive experience in employment law and there will be expert advice on hand from commerce and technology law specialist Karen Harrison.
