Future of Nottinghamshire’s transport networks debated with help of D2N2 LEP Chief Executive

The future of transport in Nottinghamshire will be discussed by key business figures – including D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Chief Executive David Ralph – at a business forum.

Recent major changes to local transport networks have included the launch of two new Nottingham tram routes, the widening of the A453 and the opening of the new look Nottingham train station. Future projects, such as the HS2 (High Speed 2) line, which has a proposed East Midlands hub at Toton, and the cross-regional Midlands Connect partnership, to better link-up counties’ transport provision, will have a significant effect on the way people in Nottinghamshire travel.

The Greater Nottingham Transport Partnership (GNTP) will hold its Business Forum 2016 at the The Bowden Room, Nottingham Conference Centre in Burton Street, Nottingham, next Wednesday (February 24), from 11.45am to 2pm. Business representatives and others will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss upcoming proposals.

David Ralph, Chief Executive at the D2N2 LEP, will be one of five guest speakers. The LEP – a private-sector led partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers, community organisations and others, which works to promote economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – is investing millions of pounds in transport infrastructure and backing major projects such as HS2, seeing this as essential infrastructure for growing the economy. For example, D2N2 has invested £6.1million in the Nottingham Cycle City Ambition programme and £3.1m towards recent Nottingham Ring Road improvements.

Mr Ralph’s fellow guest speakers next Wednesday will be:

  • Andrew Pritchard, Director of Policy and Infrastructure at East Midland’s Councils
  • Chris Carter, Head of Transport Planning at Nottingham City Council
  • Stephen McFarlane, Head of Community and Stakeholder Engagement for High Speed Rail
  • Gary Smerdon-White, Chief Executive of the Sustainable Travel Collective.
