Latest Government figures show employment up and unemployment down across the East Midlands.
Employment rose and the number of people out of work fell in both the region and nationally in the latest quarterly figures available, from June to August (2015), compared with the previous quarter, March to May; according to the Office for National Statistics’ Labour Market Statistics report, published today (October 14).
Compared with the same quarter last year – June to August 2014 – today’s ONS report shows that, among those of working age (16 to 64-years-old) living in the East Midlands, there were:
- 2.26m people in employment (75.1% of working age population) – 1.2% up on the previous year.
- 109,000 unemployed – (4.6% of working age population) – 0.9% down.
Employment rose and joblessness fell also, when comparing the June to August quarter with March to May.
Nationally – comparing the two most recent quarters – employment increased by 140,000 (to 31.1m) and the number of unemployed people fell by 79,000 (to 1.7million).
Peter Richardson, Chairman of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This is continuing good news for employment and jobs creation in the region. It shows that the strategies being developed and promoted by organisations such as D2N2, with business and local authority partners, are having an impact.”
