HS2 public information events on proposed route through D2N2 area

Public information events on plans to route part of the UK’s proposed HS2 high speed rail network through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership area will be held early in the New Year.

Phase 2 of the HS2 network plans include a western route (Crewe to Manchester) and an eastern leg (West Midlands to Leeds). The latter would create a regional ‘rail hub’ at Toton, Nottinghamshire (a concept design is pictured above), and network maintenance depot at Staveley, north Derbyshire. Last Month (November) the Government confirmed it would take these proposals forward as its preferred route.

D2N2 – the private sector-led partnership promoting economic and jobs growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – supports the planned route and associated development, for its economic benefits.

The LEP is a member of the East Midlands HS2 Strategic Board (including more than 30 local authority, business, Local Enterprise Partnership and other organisations’ representatives) which recently published an East Midlands HS2 Growth Strategy Report. This estimated that the HS2 route could create an extra 74,000 jobs in the East Midlands and add £4billion to its economy, by 2042.

HS2 Ltd has now announced the dates of free public consultation events, to give people along the Phase 2 HS2 route more details about it, for early in the New Year.

Dates announced for HS2 run events in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire areas are:

  • Monday January 16 – From 12noon to 8pm, at the Best Western Yew Lodge Hotel, 33 Packington Hill, Kegworth (DE74 2DF).
  • Friday January 27 – (12noon to 8pm) at Trowell Parish Hall, Stapleford Road, Trowell (NG9 3QA).
