Nominations now open for Derby’s Hall of Fame

Nominations are now open for Derby residents to nominate people for the city’s ‘hall of fame’, as part of a project funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The project, named Made in Derby, is a joint project involving Derby City Council, the Derby Telegraph and local business leaders. It will feature Derby’s most famous and inspiring people who will be honoured with a series of plaques embedded into Derby city centre streets. The first plaques will be installed between intu Derby and the Market Hall along Albion Street (DE1 2PR) and Exchange Street (DE1 2DU). The project is expected to be opened in early 2018.

The cost of these works is £70,000, which is being wholly funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – the private sector-led partnership which promotes economic and jobs growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – through its Local Growth Fund (LGF) allocation from Government. LGF funding is used to jointly invest in infrastructure projects which directly aid economic growth in the LEP area.

This is part of a wider £1.9m placemaking project in the city centre of which D2N2 provided a grant of £1.65m from its Local Growth Fund allocation. Derby City Council provided £250,000 from its capital budget – all of which is being used to fund the St Peters Street works (artist impression pictured).

Nominations for the Derby Hall of Fame should be received by Thursday 30th November and should state who is being nominated and why. The selection criteria are that the person should have either have been born in Derby or have a strong association with Derby. They should have made a significant contribution to the city or achieved substantial accomplishments in their profession or vocation.

A panel of judges comprising representatives from the local civic and business community will make the final selection.
